Week 3 Start 'em Sit 'em
Start 'Em
Aaron Rodgers: Rodgers exploded in week 1 and followed up that performance with a solid fantasy showing in a game where the Packers didn't need him as Aaron Jones went off. From a fantasy perspective, Green Bay seems to alternate between Jones and Rodgers having huge weeks and I think it's Arod's time to put up another 30 effort. The Saints and Packers clash on SNF and New Orleans is coming off a game in which they gave up over 280 yards and 3 TDs to Derek Carr. The Saints have shown they can slow the run but obviously struggle against the pass. Rodgers should be able to thrive against this secondary and with the Saints likely to score a handful, the Packers aren't likely to be up big and waste away the clock with Aaron Jones.
Kenyan Drake: The Cardinals went out and got Drake in the off-season and if he's on your roster, it's been a frustrating two weeks. Kyler Murray picks the year you draft Drake with your second pick to rush for 80+ yards a game and steal goal-line carries. This week is where things could turn for the better with Arizona taking on Detroit who's defense is porous at the moment. Kyler undoubtedly will have a big week but I think Drake is going to feast in this one. The Cardinals have a chance to build a lead and then pound the ground game with Drake in the 4th. He's proven he's capable with a solid YPC average against the Niners and putting up close to 100 yards against Washington. Against a team that let Aaron Jones score 45 fantasy points, I wouldn't be surprised if Drake totals 150+ yards with at least one score.
Cowboys and Seahawks Players: This could be a higher scoring game than Dallas' 40-39 game against Atlanta last week. Both defenses are struggling and both offenses are on fire. The Cowboys secondary is absolutely atrocious and were letting the Falcons WRs run circles around them. Chris Carson may face some issues with the Cowboys run defense but he'll have more than enough opportunities to score in this one. For Metcalf and Lockett, they are going to have their way all game and if they both don't score 20+ fantasy points i'd be very surprised. Russell Wilson is another story. The MVP of the first two weeks has his easiest opponent of the season so far. He made the Patriots top 5 defense look like one of the worst in the league and will make the Cowboys look like a college team.
For Dallas, similar story offensively. Zeke will eat no doubt but the Seahawks run defense will make sure he doesn't have much more than 100 yards. They won't do enough however for Zeke to score under 20 points. Amari Cooper is one of the most targeted WRs in the league and if the Patriots WRs were able to get so much space between them and the Seahawks DBs, those targets will turn into catches. Amari will have one of his biggest games of the season in this one. As for Prescott, the man is going to be able to call his mom, eat a four-course meal and set his fantasy lineup for next week before Seattle's pass rush gets home. The Seahawks couldn't buy a pass rush last week even if their lives depended on it. With unlimited time, Dak will look to exploit the secondary and he's going to succeed. This will probably be the game of the week and there will be very few punts between the two teams.
Hayden Hurst: After a disappointing week 1, Hurst rebounded in week 2 with 5 catches for 72 yards and a score. This week, with Julio Jones being ruled out, he should have a chance to do even better than week 2. The Bears do a good job covering WRs but aren't great against the TE position. In a game in which the Falcons are going to be slowed a bit, Ryan will have to go to his TE as a safety valve more often than he's had to in the first two games.
Sit 'Em
Jared Goff: Goff has a poor fantasy performance week 1 against a bad Cowboy secondary. In week 2 he was able to bounce back against an embarrassing Philly team. This week, he faces the Bills which will be his hardest task of the season so far. I don't see him finding much room through the air in this one. There are better QB options on the waivers than Goff for this week.
Deshaun Watson: I'm sorry. I'm so sorry that I say Watson is going to have a monster year and then he appears on Sit 'Em two weeks in a row. He has one of the toughest first three weeks in opponents you can possibly ask for. Playing Pittsburgh this week is going to be tough just like the last two weeks. He has a chance at 25 points for the first time this year, but there's other QBs who are more likely to hit that mark. Be patient with Watson, he's still going to have a big year once he gets these top defenses out of the way. You'll be rewarded with your patience, don't worry and please don't trade him if he has another tough week.
Todd Gurley II: Gurley had a bad start to his new campaign with the Falcons totaling just 20 fantasy points in 2 games. As much as I want him to do well and run like he did with the Rams in the early days of his career, I'm not confident. This week especially, going against the Bears, he's going to find very little running room. Luckily for him, the Falcons passing game is going to struggle somewhat so he will get his fair share of touches, but yards are going to be hard to come by. If you have another option, put him in because Gurley doesn't have a shot at more than 10 points unless he gets in the end-zone.
AJ Green: Green just doesn't seem to have a good connection with Burrow. He's been targets 22 times and has 8 receptions. Burrow does throw to him more than anyone else, but most of his incompletions come when he tosses to Green. Until they can develop a better rapport, he's too risky to play. I wouldn't give up on Green just yet because if they do find their rhythm together they could be dynamic. However, until then, you have to stay away from him.
Darren Waller: This is only if you have a top 7 back-up TE. Waller isn't 100% after shredding the Saints defense for 12 receptions 105 yards and a TD. Bill Belichick was praising him this week which only means he's going to be a big part of the defensive game-plan for the Patriots. I don't expect a dud from Waller, but this will be one of his more modest games and he doesn't have a good chance of putting up numbers like he did a week ago. However, he will always have TD upside and if he gets you 50 yards and a score, that's great. For owners that have a Hayden Hurst, Dallas Goedert or TJ Hockenson, I like their chances of having big weeks more than Waller's.
