Week 3 Fantasy Sleepers
QB Sleepers
Justin Herbert: After an idiot team doctor punctured Tyrod Taylor's lung before last weeks game against the Chiefs, Herbert was next up and didn't disappoint. He passed for over 300 yards with two total TDs and an INT. For being thrust into the starting job as a rookie, against the defending Super Bowl champs, in the opener of a $5 billion stadium, he seemed to be pretty cool out there. On top of all that, he scored more fantasy points than Deshaun Watson did against KC in week 1. Keenan Allen owners rejoice! After Tyrod Taylor was making it seem like Allen was going to be a huge bust after week 1, Herbert connected with the star wide-out 7 out of 10 times for over 90 yards. The fact that he seemed to have good rapport with Allen bodes well for both parties the rest of the season. This week, the Chargers host the Panthers who have allowed over 30 points to the Bucs and the Raiders. If Herbert was able to pass for 300+ yards against the Chiefs, he has a great chance of repeating that effort against a worse defense.
Mitchell Trubiski: Trubiski surprised a lot of people with an amazing 4th quarter in week 1 but besides that, has been pretty mediocre. The reason I like him this week is he's going against an Atlanta Falcons team who might be the most embarrassing team in the NFL and always find a way to give up yards and wins to their opponents. Their passing defense ranks last in the league after they gave up monster games to Russell Wilson and Dak Prescott. To go along with the fact that they slowed Zeke Elliott down and didn't give up much on the ground to Chris Carson and the Hawks, this matchup is juicy for Trubisky. I think that the Falcons offense won't be too hindered by Chicago's defense making this a higher scoring game than those typically played by the Bears. It should be a back-and-fourth contest and I wouldn't be surprised if this turns out to be one of Trubiski's best games of the season.
RB Sleepers
Mike Davis: After appearing in my top waiver adds for the week, Davis accordingly is on my sleeper list. Going up against a good rush defense in the Chargers could actually play in his favor. After his 8 catches for 74 yards last week, he should be in prime position for dump-offs in this one as it's going to be tough for Carolina to find room on the ground or through the air. In normal formats he's a great flex options and in PPR formats he is a flex play with RB2 upside.
Joshua Kelley: Normally, it wouldn't be a good idea to start anyone in an RB committee unless you're desperate. Kelley and Austin Ekeler are the only other RB committee besides Nick Chubb and Kareem Hunt where you could actually feel confident starting both. Ekeler excels in the passing game and is used well on early downs in situations where the defense isn't stacking the box. Kelley is more of a power back and has a better chance of scoring out of the two. Both of these Charger backs have 35 carries a piece through the first two weeks. I don't see that slowing down a bit as Carolina's run defense is one of the worst in the league so far and they'll look to establish the run in order to open up things for Herbert through the air. If Kelley can get 15+ touches again this week, he should be able to easily produce 12+ fantasy points for the third week in a row.
WR Sleepers
Russell Gage: Gage is one of the most slept on WRs in the NFL at the moment. Gage has 21 targets, 15 receptions, 160 yards and a score in the first two games this year. Julio Jones has 16 targets, 11 receptions for 181 yards and no score. Gage is putting up borderline WR1 numbers so far this year and Matt Ryan obviously likes him as he's targeting him more than Jones. There is a 50/50 chance that he is able to play as he is listed as a game-time decision. If Jones isn't able to suit up, Gage is a WR2 with WR1 upside but is worth a start at flex even if Jones plays. Gage is still only rostered on 52% of leagues and is a must add in all formats.
Robby Anderson: This is another player that's being slept on after going over 100 yards in each of the first two games this season while hauling in 15 catches. When he was with the Jets, his only hope were big plays in order for fantasy relevance but now he's looking like he could record close to 100 catches this year. With DJ Moore going against the opposing teams top CB each game, it's leaving Anderson tons of room on short to medium passes while still having that big play potential. Although the Chargers have a good defense, I don't think it will hinder Anderson. He's a WR2 in all formats.
TE Sleepers
Dalton Schultz: After Blake Jarwin was placed on IR, Schultz has become the TE1 for Dallas for the rest of the season. In his first game as a starter, he reeled in 9 of 10 targets for 88 yards and a score. It seems as if Prescott had a better connecting with him that game than he ever did with Jarwin. This week the Cowboys play the Seahawks in a likely high-scoring shootout. Seattle does well against the TE position but is still bound to give up at least 300 yards to Dak and allow the Cowboys multiple scoring opportunities. Although Schultz may not get as many opportunities as last week, he's a 6'5" tank and it'll be tough for Seattle to cover him in the red-zone.
Jordan Reed: Reed was once a top 5 TE in fantasy and even scraping the top 3 at times back in his days at Washington. Injuries have plagued him since and he has yet to find fantasy relevance until last week. He caught 7 of 8 passed for 50 yards and two TDs and looked like the old Jordan Reed. He's a guy that produced before his injuries and has had a lot of unlucky twists to his career, but he still possesses the skill of a top 10 TE. With Jimmy Garoppolo out I don't believe that diminishes his value at all since Nick Mullens will most likely be looking for short to medium passes in which Reed could excel. He's a good streaming option this week if you're having trouble at the TE spot.
