Top Waiver Adds heading into Week 3
Gardner Minshew II
Minshew has scored 20+ points in both the first two games. The first game he was 19-20 passing in a win and the second he was 30-45 in a loss. He's going to be a product of a team who doesn't run the ball well and isn't going to win many games this season. Both statistics makes Minshew an enticing play as he should be throwing a lot this season as his confidence grows. He's no more than a QB2 for now, but if you have the roster space, he's worth stashing for later this season as he continues to improve.
Devonta Freeman
Freeman just signed a one-year deal worth up to $3 million with the NY Giants who have to replace Saquon. Freeman was one of the most effective backs in the league a few years ago with the Falcons. He's shown that he can catch out of the back-field which will bode well for him in fantasy as Daniel Jones likes to pass to his RBs. There is a lot of speculation with how many touches he'll get but I think he'll be the outright RB1 in a couple weeks time at the most. After Dion Lewis came in and rushed for 20 yards on 10 carries, Freeman doesn't seem to have much to compete with. Given the Giants terrible offensive line and overall sad team, there isn't a great chance at more than an RB2 but if he can turn back the clock, he'll be a great addition of at least an every-week flex play.
Mike Davis
CMC is going to be sidelined for 4-6 weeks and the Panthers are going to need someone to replace him and that guy is going to be Mike Davis. In PPR formats, Davis could be worth an RB2 spot. Last week, McCaffrey played most of the game before getting injured and Davis ate even before the injury, recording 8 catches for 74 yards while rushing for just a yard. If he can get 10+ carries plus get involved in the passing game like he did last week, he has a great shot to go over 100 yards each week CMC is out. He's a must add in all leagues but he's an ELITE pickup in a PPR league.
Darrell Henderson Jr.
At this point it wouldn't hurt to have Malcolm Brown and Henderson for the Rams as we have no clue who is going to get carries and when. Brown established himself as the lead back in week 1 but had an off week on Sunday allowing Henderson to get his first real chance of the season in which he didn't disappoint. 12 carries, 81 yards, a TD, 40 receiving yards and 19 fantasy points. There is no way you can start any of the Rams RBs for now, but, Henderson may be emerging as the favorite for the most carries. He's definitely worth a roster spot to wait and see if his workload increases.
Los Angeles Chargers Defense
Normally, defenses don't appear on this list but the Chargers have proved their worth. Shutting Joe Burrow and the Bengals down in week 1 didn't seem impressive until Week 2 when we saw the Bengals put up 30 on the Browns. Then last week, they completely shut down the Chiefs offense throughout almost the whole game making Mahomes look mediocre. Two games in a row the defense has been the reason the Chargers were able to have a chance to win. With the offense looking the way it is, the Chargers could be similar to the Steelers of last year relying on their defense to give them a shot at a playoff spot.
